No, this isn’t a rant. Well, it is and it isn’t. Just hang in there and I’ll try to explain what I’m talking about.
Have you been to Squidoo lately? The first thing I was greeted with this morning was some stupid message about ever.com and how would I like to have “the.greatest.swagen.ever.com” or something stupid like that?
How many people do you think are going to jump all over this?
I can see it now:
I cringe when I think of it.
The truth is, you’re much better off playing in your own backyard.
What do I mean?
By putting your information on somebody else’s real estate (that’s what Squidoo is) you’re not building up your own real estate, but theirs. They’re the ones who get all the real link juice and rankings. Sure, you profit a little bit. After all, you are part of THEIR real estate. You do get visitors. But who gets the bulk of the visitors? They do.
Besides, they can boot you out of their backyard at any time if you don’t play by their rules. Think people haven’t had their Squidoo accounts yanked? Trust me, it happens.
By getting your own domain, you don’t have to play by anybody’s rules other than the web host. And most web hosts are very forgiving. No porn, racist or FFA scripts. Other than that, most things are just fine. And there are some hosting companies that will even allow the above 3 items, not that I am condoning porn, racist or FFA scripts.
Play in your own backyard. You’ll get more visitors, can play whatever game you like, and ultimately become more popular than if you picked up my.greatest.dog.fidoo.ever.com.
I can’t wait (sigh)
