Well, the title might get you wondering what this is going to be about! You might think I just took a leaf out of Steve’s last post to grab your attention and you’d be right! Well, after my last post here which is buried somewhere way back, which I entitled Social Links, I thought I’d carry on its theme a way further.
So what kind of recognition am I talking about here? You’ll have to read on to find out…
All Internet Marketers worth their salt know that if they want their websites to be seen by the kind of visitors, or traffic, that is going to click their ads and make money for them, they need to show well in the search engine results. And any old search engine will not do. If you want the big numbers, it has to be Google, simply because they are way the biggest and attract by far the most people searching for stuff.
The problem is that getting your website or blog to feature on page one for your main keywords is about as easy as climbing a mountain with one arm tied behind your back. Not impossible, just dang difficult!
To make an appreciable dent in Google’s SERPs, your site needs lots of good quality backlinks from a lot of different albeit relevant places. And your competition fighting you for that first page place are not going to help you to leap-frog over them! So where do you get enough quality links to take on your competitors and steal their traffic? How do you know what you need to beat them? Most people simply don’t have the resources to take on the front runners directly.
But you can box clever.
A useful tool like SEO Elite will tell you how many links your competition has got and what quality they are. In most niches that are not too competitive, such as make money, credit cards, loans, weight loss etc you actually do stand a fighting chance of moving up into the big league. Especially if you know what you need to do in order to get there. And knowing what in-links your competing sites have, means you can go out and get the same as them plus just enough more to overtake them.
Getting that Recognition
It’s not rocket science, but it takes some guile, a fair dose of hard work and the determination to win. And you’ll get there. Google won’t make it easy for you, of course as they are constantly tinkering with their index so you can never be too sure if one method that worked last week will still work today.
But the sure fire methods of getting links that have always worked still work today, such as those I pointed out over at my main site, The Honest Way on the post: How to Get Legitimate Backlinks - the link will take you straight there in a new tab or window so you don’t have to leave this site to read it.
A word of warning: Don’t use duplicate content when getting backlinks. Google are on to it and won’t count the links embedded in duplicates. Better to submit 10 quality original articles with your keyword anchored links in the resource box to the best article directories such as Ezine Articles and the like than submit a thousand to every one and his dog and have 999 of them ignored! Its more work but worth it in the long run.
As always: be positive, be tenacious and be successful!

Hey, wake up!
There, that got your attention. And take your feet off the desk when I’m talking to you. I want your pure undivided attention for the next three minutes and twenty-seven point four seconds. That’s how long it should take you to read this article unless you just woke up. Then give yourself an extra minute for your brain to actually begin to function.
Okay, now that we got that out of the way, let’s get to the heart of the matter in regard to this article…putting your reader into a coma. No, this is NOT something that you want to do unless you’re a surgeon looking for a malpractice suit. Sometimes I think there are plenty of those around. But I digress. Where was I?
Oh yes, putting your reader into a coma? Don’t do it!
Next subject. Oh, okay, you need more info. Fine.
Look, you’re an article writer, not an obituary writer. You have something to say to your reader and you want them to read it. Well, if that’s your goal, you need to make what you’re writing a little less dry than a martini. And no, I’m not talking about the shaken, not stirred variety. Bond was a wimp who ordered a wimpy drink and was being snooty about it.
There is way too much out there competing for your reader’s attention. So if you want to hold it, you have to be creative, even outrageous at times. Naturally, the subject matter will have a lot to do with how outrageous you’re going to get. If you’re writing about some terrible plague that’s just hit a third world country, I don’t think you want to go around cracking jokes. But most things you’ll write about on a regular basis aren’t going to be so grim. So lighten up. Have fun with your writing.
Just make sure you get the point across.
Kind of like the way I just did.
Okay, you can go back to sleep now. Just make sure you set your alarm so you don’t miss that great new morning show that everybody is talking about.
Which one?
Hey, everybody is talking about it so you know which one. Just turn on your set and it’ll be on.

I get asked a lot of questions, almost on a daily basis. It’s great being popular, but sometimes even I don’t have all the answers. And sometimes the answers are not what people want to hear. The question, “Is there an ultimate marketing strategy” is one of those questions where people don’t want to hear the truth. They want to believe that there is that one thing that they can do that will have them rolling in the bucks at the push of a button. If only it was that easy. Well, it’s not. And in this article, I’m going to give you some truths on marketing strategies and a few tips to boot.
First, some truths. There is no one marketing method that is hands down the best. Each method has its good and bad. Either the method is very expensive, takes time to work or doesn’t reach as many people as you would like it to. Let’s take Google Adwords as an example. Yes, it’s a very effective form of promotion as it is very targeted. However, it does have its problems. For one thing, as big as Google is, it only reaches 50% of the Internet population. So relying only on Google is leaving a lot of money on the table. In addition to that, it can be very expensive, especially in some niches.
Let’s take article marketing, which I do extensively. While this will reach more people, because you’re not limited to just one search engine to pick up your articles, it is also very time consuming. For one thing, you have to write a lot of articles to get any significant amount of traffic. Some people think that they can write one article, put it out there, and the traffic will come pouring in. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. I’ve been writing articles for years and it took quite some time before I started to get a significant amount of traffic from them.
I could keep going but I think you get the idea. The point is, if you’re relying on just one form of promotion to advertise your products and services, you’re not going to get the traffic that you’re looking for. So what’s the answer? You need to focus on many things in order to get the most exposure to your site. I use Adwords, articles, forums, safelists, FFA sites, message boards, traffic exchanges and other things in order to get my sales message out there. The result? I rake in over 6 figures a year.
In my signature, you’ll find the definitive guide on Internet advertising. I’ve left nothing out. I’ve gone over the good and the bad and have rated each one. Even the ones that aren’t great can bring in results if you use them properly.

It seems that so many people are jumping on the bandwagon by researching home businesses on the internet and frankly taking real precautions before literally signing on to the first company they read about. I’ve noticed a true difference in the newest people who have either signed up or at minimum inquired about my home business. If that cross section is any indication of a trend where people are seeking and researching first, then that is a great thing for everyone involved. This means they are very serious and are not willing to waste their money.
So that is the first sign that starting a home business may be right for you. Now comes dedication and willingness to learn the business. Once again, I’m seeing a new group of people who are asking a lot of questions about how to take their business further. They want to learn more about blogging, article writing and the ever important backlink in order to become a presence on the internet. If you are willing to learn about these aspects of marketing and also willing to give whatever time you can but all of your effort then starting an internet home business may be for you.
Now comes scheduling your time. My newest group of people are stay at home moms with young kids. Everyone knows it is not easy but if you are going to start a home business you have to schedule time for your work. If you can’t schedule the time then its not going to work. Period. Sometimes you have to make some sacrifices by waking up a little earlier, going to bed a little later of skipping TV time. In the beginning especially, you have to devote your being to this mission. I would go as far as saying you have to taste it. Then you know starting an internet home business is for you.
Are you excited about it? I know that may even sound a bit trite but it’s not. How excited are you? I actually enjoy setting about making a schedule for the things I want to accomplish in the day. I have to refrain from writing too many things down because I’ll never feel as if I did what I had intended to do. You don’t want to feel that what you are doing is tedious, boring or obnoxious. OK, there are some aspects of marketing that are (submitting to directories for example) but in most cases there is software that makes those jobs easier. When you look forward to actually doing the work to become a presence on the internet, then starting a home business may just be for you.
If any of this sounded remotely interesting and especially doable….then I say go for it!

The negative advertising epidemic. It’s worse than you realize. And if you’re not familiar with what I’m talking about, it’s the practice of writing ads that allude to a product or product’s creator being either a scam or scammer, depending on who or what you’re talking about. It seems that this trend is getting worse and worst everyday. As a matter of fact, it’s gotten so bad, that several big name marketers are threatening lawsuits against the sites that allow these ads to appear.
Okay, you’re probably wondering why I’m even bringing this up. Well, the people running these ads are people like you and me…other marketers who promote affiliate products. They’ll run an Adwords ad that reads something like, “Is a scammer?” and of course the prospect seeing the ad is going to click on it to find out if this person is indeed a scammer. Then, what they find is an ad that actually says what a great marketer this person is. The problem is, the seed of doubt has already been planted. For every person who clicks to find out, there will be another person who won’t click and just assume, the person is a scammer. And of course the same thing is true with products advertised in this manner.
Great, so what can we do? Well, as marketers, we can stay away from these kind of ads. There are better ways to create curiosity. For example, you could say something like, “Is the real deal?” Now people will click to find out if they are, and the people who don’t click, in this case, most people will assume that the person IS the real deal because of the way the ad was worded. The power of suggestion is an incredible thing. It can be used for good or evil. This latter example is how I would use it if I were promoting a person’s product.
Some people reading this article will take this advice to heart and avoid posting negative ads. Others will call me all kinds of names and just continue doing what they’re doing. I am hoping that you are NOT among the latter group. I am personally going to tell any affiliate who promotes any of my products in this manner that I don’t want their business and will ask them nicely, at first, to take down their ads, and then after that, I will file lawsuits as other marketers are now doing.
The negative advertising epidemic is going to end…one way or another.
