I get asked all the time in comments on my various blogs, in forums I moderate, and through email — What the quickest and easiest way to start a successful online business is? That’s not an easy question to answer because everyone’s situation and skill level are different, and there are so many ways to make money online that what is great for one person may not be good at all for another.

There’s really no perfect solution that everyone can use to start a successful online business, without first putting in a reasonable amount of time and effort. I’ve been working at home, full-time for about eight months now. It hasn’t been as easy I thought it would be. Its not just the realities of building a passive income business which has its challenges, its the issue of people’s reactions to the fact that I stay home all day and have no children or other  “obvious” reason to be there.   You need to grow a thick skin if you are planning on building your own business – particularly if you are doing it online.

Very, very few people understand how I make money online. Most people think the height of sophistication on the Internet is being able to use Facebook or Twitter. Most of my friends use neither and some haven’t really got a handle on email yet!

Therefore trying to actually make them understand that I make a living developing my websites and being paid by advertisers leave them at best thinking I am a webdesigner for hire, and worst – well I hate to think what dark and illegal things they think I do working form home all day.

Before you can get other people to take your work at home business seriously though – you need to take it seriously yourself. I have never owned my own business before. It took me quite a long time to understand the correct answer to when someone asked me what I did for a living was “I am an entrepreneur, I am starting my own online business”. Its not a hobby or an experiment – and until you stop thinking it of like that you will find it hard to get others to take you seriously. And you do want your work at home business to be taken seriously. First off it will make it a lot easier to control your time. Having worked away from home for most of my life I love the fact that I can take deliveries during the day and be there for the tradsmen. But you don’t want to become the social center of the neighborhood if you are trying to get some work done! Set boundaries with friends so they don’t just drop by when they feel like it and stay for hours.

Also remember to dream big – don’t talk about making some “pin money” or “a little cash on the side” – because oddly if you talk that way that is all that you will make – a little. Its called a self-limiting belief and they are alive and well for many people starting their own work from home business – particularly women.

So take your business seriously. Get yourself some business cards, a decent computer setup, a comfortable chair. If you can’t handle the accounts or the technical stuff- out-source them – buidling a business means that you will need to invest in your busines as well. That’s probably the single biggest way to take it to the next level.

I see it, I hear it, I read it every single day. The top work at home job choice is non-phone jobs.

Through various work at home job forums a lot of people work in customer service because they are readily available and I suppose people really don’t mind all that much or why would they work in that field? 5. Search Engine Evaluators
Google and Leapforce have temporary contract positions. Quality Raters evaluate search engine results.

6. Texting
Texting is mostly adult-oriented. The client texts via phone and you answer back via computer. It’s not for everyone, but you can make pretty decent money.

7. Website Tester
You review websites based on the company’s requirements.

Other non-phone jobs include freelance writing, court research which requires visits to your county’s courthouse and some online teaching or tutoring positions. For some extra money on the side, you can involve yourself in mock juries and paid forum posting.

Work at home ideas are obviously very important for anyone who wants to put the corporate world behind them to work from home for themselves. Without ideas and opportunities there’s not much for you to do unless you come up with a great idea for yourself. Being your own boss and making money with your own home based business is definitely the way to go, there’s little doubt about that, but without a home business idea your hopes of making money are severely hindered.

2. Build Your Own Network of Sites/Blogs

Blogs are fairly easy and cheap or even free to build, and so are static websites for the most part. In fact, with resources like blogger.com it’s possible for a regular person without any special skills to get a blog online for free in a matter of minutes.

Getting a blog or website online isn’t a problem. The more important part is finding a niche that you can compete in where people have money and are prepared to spend it. A few examples would be weight loss, making money, debt, health issues, and certain hobbies. However, you can’t just jump into any of those broad niches because they are way too competitive. First you need to narrow it down to a few smaller niches within those topics.

Once you learn how to find good niches you will be able to crank out blogs in no time. Build an empire of blogs and monetize them with Adsense, affiliate links, paid advertising, etc… Then learn some internet marketing and SEO techniques to bring in quality traffic to them and soon enough the money will be rolling in.

3. Sell Content

There are many ways in which you can make money selling articles and other content that you have written. There are websites that will pay you for articles, such as associatedcontent.com and others. There are also a lot of internet marketers and bloggers who will gladly pay for well-written articles on almost any topic in tons of different niches. Just go the Warrior forum, Sitepoint forum, or Digitalpoint forum and you will find sections on all of them where you can sell your content.

Remember if you want to work from home, you will still need to work hard, have self-discipline, patience, and think creatively to come up with new ideas and make current ones work. Finding the right work at home business ideas is one part of being self-employed that cannot be ignored. The more innovative and creative you are the more money you can make.
